This one and a half-storey stone house offers a lot of character inside and out, but it also was an affordable entry into the genteel and leafy Kingsway neighbourhood.
“It was on a busy street, but it was a unique, old-fashioned, very quaint corner lot,” listing agent Julie Kinnear says. “It was prime Kingsway, so it qualifies for some of the best schools in Toronto, which is definitely a perk. And it had the leaded-glass windows and beautiful trim you’d expect in that neighbourhood.”

New Toronto is often overlooked as a coveted location, but there’s a large stock of affordable bungalows and two-storey houses in this pocket of Etobicoke close to a network of parks along Lake Ontario. This two-bedroom bungalow is near the Long Branch station, the terminus for the Queen Street streetcar, and a healthy commercial district along Lake Shore Boulevard.
“You get a nice-size lot at an affordable price, and because it’s in an established area you also get a lot of trees,” listing agent Julie Kinnear says.

This two-bedroom residence is part of a stacked townhouse of three units in the uber-trendy Liberty Village development that is consuming vast swaths of redundant industrial land around King Street West near Shaw Street.
“It was a no-brainer,” listing agent Julie Kinnear says. “It’s ideal for a young single or couple who want to own but are on a budget. It’s nicer than a condo because you have your own separate entrance, and maintenance fees are low because there are no amenities.”

Weston Road has a deserved reputation for being paved and strip-malled into submission, but a number of quiet side streets running between Weston and Jane Street, north of Lawrence Avenue, offer some of the best values in Toronto.
It’s hard to imagine buying a five-bedroom house in the 416 area code for less than $400,000, but this 2,200-square-foot brick dwelling came in under the threshold.

This three-bedroom stucco-clad townhouse is one of 12 custom infill freeholds built two years ago on a quiet laneway just off busy Dundas Street north of Bloor Street and a 10-minute walk to High Park.
“There are decks on every level, including off the third-floor master bedroom,” listing agent Julie Kinnear says. (There are three floors on top of the ground-floor garage.) “I think it was an awesome value. The only drawbacks were the very small yard and the street name.”
