Even selling at $42,000 over the asking price, this 1-1/2-storey, brick bungalow was a relatively affordable entry to the upscale Kingsway area, where most houses are worth more than a million dollars, according to real estate agent Julie Kinnear.

"A lot of families are trying to get in there," she notes, pointing out the neighbourhood's reputable schools and proximity to a recreation centre and the subway line.

"It's a great spot for a family, and [the new owners] can enlarge [the house] if they want to."

The three-bedroom home, which is roughly 70 years old, has been updated within the past three years with new plumbing, a new deck and an alarm system.

The kitchen was remodelled as well; it features stainless-steel appliances, maple cabinetry and a side door to a flagstone patio on a landscaped lot.

"[The house] was in totally move-in [condition], so you didn't have to renovate right away," Ms. Kinnear says. "It just sparkled."

There are hardwood floors and halogen lights throughout, including the kitchen. Completing the main level is a formal dining room and a living room with a wood-burning fireplace.

The main bathroom is upstairs with the bedrooms. There is a powder room on the lower level, along with a recreation room.

The driveway, which leads to a built-in garage, has also been redone.
