I'm curious, how much does it cost in permits to add a legal secondary suite in Toronto. Where I live it costs $2250.00 to change the zoning, $1.32 per square/ft for the building permit fee, and $208.00 for plumbing permits, etc?

Dear Blake, Thank you for your inquiry. You will need to speak with the landlord and or the city in regards to the safety.

I have a stepson that has been renting an apartment in a single family home at 49 Kenton Drive North York. It is a former bedroom with one entrance, no kitchen ( except for micro wave on shelve. There us another bedroom conversion (fomrer main entrance cubed to serve as acess. It appears to be nonconforming to basic standards indicated in the City's website for apartments and does not show on the list of approved rooming house. Owner occupies basement. Rent is charged on a per person basis and Parking (extra fee) is under published standards. Electrical and plumbing appear subtstandard and there is a concern for legality and safety. Could please advise if a confirmation of this premesis as being proper for an apartment and or rooming house and most important its conformity to safety. Thank you.
