Likely one of the first homes built in what is now a family friendly neighbourhood, this former farmhouse appealed to viewers because of its traditional look and affordable price, according to agent Julie Kinnear.

It retains some of its country charm yet features several upgrades and renovations.

Last year, the drywall, some windows and the knob and tube wiring were replaced.

The lighting, floors and the sole bathroom were all updated.

As for value, the $401,000 price tag is comparable to what neighbouring semi-detached houses of a similar size have sold for, but it is a bargain for a detached home, Ms. Kinnear says. What's more, the house is on a quiet street — south of Annette Street — and near many shops and services.

The main entrance is through a glass-enclosed porch. The refinished hardwood floors in the foyer flow into the adjacent den and living room.

The eat-in kitchen has exits to the yard and the private driveway that leads to the detached garage, which is a bonus in the area. Another door provides access to the family room addition in the rear.

The three bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs.

The master features vaulted ceilings, and provides a view of the street.
