VOLUNTEERING AT THE DAILY BREAD FOOD BANK

Daily Bread Food Bank is a Toronto based charity organization that fights hunger in local communities by providing support and preparing meals for shelters, hostels and various other food programs. Our team started volunteering in their kitchen in 2013 and we've kept returning ever since. See more of our photos from the Daily Bread Food Bank here.

VOLUNTEERING AT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

The Julie Kinnear Team is so excited to be volunteering at Habitat for Humanity! We wanted to find another way to give back and we thought helping to build homes would be a great way! December 2011 was our first day and we've been helping ever since. See more of our photos from the Habitat for Humanity here.

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

The Good Shepherd is a charity in downtown Toronto. It is a shelter for the homeless, providing a hot meal, clean clothes, a safe bed for the night to anyone who might need it. The first Good Shepherd centre opened in 1963 to provide food, shelter and clothes to the people in need. Today it also helps people overcome addictions, access healthcare and find housing.

More information about the Good Shepherd Ministries and ways you can contribute are available their website.

TUMAINI CHILDREN'S PROJECT

Tumaini means "hope" in Swahili, Kenya's national language. In 2006, Tumaini Children's Project (TCP) began working in the town of Kisumu, providing financial support to two locally-run AIDS orphanages by purchasing food and clothing; paying school fees; and helping to cover the immediate bills like rent and water. Julie & Claire both sponsor 2 awesome girls excited about learning: Mary Vivian Awuor & Vivian Odhiambo.

In the last few years, TCP's role has evolved into a two-pronged approach: while we continue to provide funds to educate children, we also design and fund small projects that allow orphans in other regions of Western Kenya to continue their education or acquire much needed job skills. Young Canadians design and implement projects based on our local partners' development needs. All funds raised during the course of our projects go back to the community.

TCP's goal is to provide measurable changes in small but significant ways. Through TCP, Kenyan children have the opportunity to grow, and become contributing members of their communities.

THE NORTHERN DOG PROJECT

Jen Palacios volunteers every year with The Northern Dog Project who are working to help with the over-population of dogs in the Northern Cree communities near James Bay. A team of vets and technicians are flown in to spay and neuter the pets, and any strays they are able to catch. The Project also goes into the schools to educate the children on proper health care for their pets, and proper treatment.

Here is a picture of Oscar when he was picked up to be brought to Toronto. Oscar had been tied behind a house and lived under their stairs for years. The owners no longer wanted him, so gave him up to be sent 'south'. He looks much friendlier now that Jen has adopted him and given him the best home along side her other James Bay rescue Nessy.

THE RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER

The whole team participated in the Ride To Conquer Cancer in 2009. Since then Holly & Julie have carried on the tradition annually of raising $ and riding our bikes over 200km's on a June weekend to benefit PMH - where Julie was treated and is now a proud 10 year survivor. Thank you for your continued support & donations!
