The community of Cabbagetown has been connected to the food since its beginning when Irish immigrants settled here in the 1840’s. Fleeing the potato famine, they had to find new sources of food and so, being always creative, they started growing cabbages.

The Cabbagetown Farmers’ Market, first opened in 2001, continues to celebrate this bond between its vibrant community and& local, sustainable food. Supporting ecological food growing and production methods, this market emphasizes working with farmers from Southern Ontario to keep it as local as possible!
