Julie's Scoop
Happy New Year! Hope you love snow…wow that was quite the storm we had last week. Kinda reminiscent of last Feb. I love it personally 😃 ☃️ Although not so much the clean up and the melt / slush afterwards.

Julie & Mary with Georgie - New Year’s Day 2026
Mary & I had wonderful holidays both up north at our cottage in Haliburton Highlands East and in the city. My nephew Constantin (10 years old) came for a short “big boy” surprise visit to Toronto from Austria to celebrate part of the season with my brother Alec. Highlights included visiting “Little Canada” - amazing miniature models of most of the highlights of our extraordinary country, playing chess, him serenading the family with his impressive flute playing and watching the World Jr’s hockey.
I am currently home recuperating from major surgery last week (Total Hysterectomy) so not feeling great yet. Last year I experienced post menopausal bleeding that eventually (after many tests/smaller operations/procedures!) led to a serious pre-cancerous diagnosis of AEH - atypical endometrial hyperplasia. Thankfully all went well. Now just overwhelmingly grateful for so many blessings. Grateful to the medical system we have so that this hasn’t negatively affected / stressed us financially and of course for having caught it before it got worse. Grateful to my family and friends for their ongoing support throughout, and to Mary who has been a champ taking on ALL the household and dog duties, along with taking care of me!
I am also extremely grateful to have to have our team, including Courtney, Ruairi, Jay and Daniella working diligently, knowing all our clients are well taken care of.
Ruairi put together a great video about what is currently happening in the market. You can view it here.
From our team perspective we are seeing a very strong bounce into the January market - extremely high numbers of buyers attending our open houses, lots of showings booked, and even listings selling quickly for over asking. Goes to show you that long term real estate is still a good bet. It’s not all peaches and cream of course but it is not all dark and bleak either.

Staging Tips to set the mood in January
- Choose music 🎵 that lends well to wintry days, but don’t let the soundtrack overwhelm buyers. Think of your favourite coffee shop and the subtle music that encourages reflection.
- Showcase your primary bathroom with new Turkish towels and a bamboo tray. Display simple yet luxurious products for a spa-like experience. Winter = hot bath relax time!
- Arrange cozy nooks with all the staples: a faux-fur throw, pouf, seasonal pillows, and a table lamp. Enticing and magical.
If you have any questions or concerns not forgetting any dreams and plans - please reach out for personal consultation.
