Summer Adventures:
Europe 1999

WOW time flies!! It seems like ages ago though, but this summer I was fortunate to be able to travel for 5 weeks! My friend Orysia Semotiuk and I started out in Amsterdam, and ventured all the way to Istanbul.

We briefly stopped in Belgium, France (Chamonix is heaven on earth), Switzerland, Italy (wow-Rome), then spent the majority of our time in the Greek Islands and the Aegean coast of Turkey.

Turkey was so interesting, and fascinating. Lorna met up with us in Istanbul. How fortunate we were to leave within just days of that horrific earthquake. Truly we were blessed.

Oktoberfest '99

Fall rang in with a bierstein! My annual cherished friends' & clients' bash was a great success!

Thanks to all those who cameÉ and ate up all that schnitzel!! Hopefully all those who missed it will be there next time!!

Congrats to the door prize winners - Becca Cameron (nee Dunn), Sarah Gutelius (aged 6 weeks), Scott Ross, and Michael Annett (who drew his own name - can you say fixed?!!) who all took home a magnum of Henkell Trocken!

There were many donations of both clothing and food. So many of you were very generous. All food and clothing was donated for Interim Place, a shelter for women.

75 Year Reunion

Camp Oconto celebrated its 75th year as a residential summer camp for girls. There was a dinner in April in Toronto and a camp weekend in September, where women from all over, and every generation came back together to celebrate. I started at camp at 11 years old, for 9 summers!

Neighbourhood Corner High Park/Bloor West Village

In the summer, the average price of homes sold in the High Park/Bloor West Village area rose 14% from the same time last year to $307,629, reflecting a more active upper-end ($300,000+) market. Average time-on-market was 51 days, up 54% from the 33 days of July '98, reflecting the fact that more expensive homes generally take longer to sell.

Rosedale

The market for upper-end homes in Rosedale took a beating in the early '90s, but appears to be bouncing back. The average price of a detached home in the area was $1,278,929 - an impressive 33% increase from the same period last year, with several sales in the over $3,000,000 category. Although the average time-on-market was 70 days, well above the city-wide average of 42, this reflects the exclusivity of the area and the small pool of potential buyers that can afford to purchase there.

Summer Contest Winner

Thank you to all that entered the word search contest!! The correct answer was SPRING.

Anne Marie Vanier was the lucky winner, and was (hopefully) thrilled to go to lunch with me! We went to a groovy little neighbourhood restaurant in the Annex called "Grapefruit Moon".

It is such a small world! The restaurant is co-owned by an old camp friend of mine. It also turned out that Anne Marie was on the same hockey team with her. Amazing

John Ryan - Regeneration Tour

WHISTLER, BC - As of the writing of this newsletter the John Ryan Regeneration Tour has raised more than $1,000,000.

You may remember that John Ryan is a Realtor in Whistler. Ryan has used a wheelchair since a 1994 car accident. What a Canadian Hero!!

He unselfishly put his flourishing career on hold to cross Canada in a modified wheel chair sport bike. The bike was powered only by upper body strength, with the ultimate goal of raising $5 million dollars in the continuing battle to conquer the fractured lives impacted by spinal cord injuries.

He finished his trek in September, but raising money continues.
